About Us

Rogers Consulting Group was established to offer organizations an alternative to the product sales approach many consulting firms and employee benefits brokerages take when addressing the human resources, benefits, and compensation needs of an organization. Our approach focuses on supporting the vision and mission of the organization. The product sales approach is "defensive" in nature, assuming each organization should have the "most competitive" benefits compared with its peers to attract and retain employees or other members of the organization. Through our approach, we lead organizations to create a culture with appropriate benefits and policies that make the organization clearly distinguishable and appealing to its target employees or members. This is accomplished in the context of cultural health and cultural alignment.

We first explore the fundamental and foundational reasons an organization exists.

Then, we facilitate a process of discovery to help the organization’s leadership assess its current state of cultural health and alignment.

From this foundational assessment, we work with the organization to address issues of cultural health and, perhaps most importantly, determine an optimally aligned culture to support the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.

Cultural Health

Cultural health addresses how well an organization fulfills its mission. Dimensions of cultural health include:

dimensions of a healthy culture

All of these dimensions are measured on a scale of “bad to good”. No one wants to be unhealthy. Individuals and organizations always want good health.

Cultural Alignment

Cultural alignment addresses how an organization fulfills its mission. Dimensions of cultural alignment include:

dimensions of aligned culture

All of these dimensions are measured on a scale of “good to good”. For example, the relationship an organization has with its customers may fall somewhere on a continuum from transactional to intimate. Nether end of the spectrum is bad. The culture an organization chooses along this spectrum is merely related to the culture it must establish to carry out its mission. Different organizations need differently aligned cultures depending on their mission and strategic priorities.

Experience

Wes Rogers has over 28 years’ experience in consulting and senior management positions with a variety of organizations. Wes has worked with hospital and physician owned health care organizations as a member of senior management and as a consultant to executive teams. This experience provides exceptional insights into the operations of insurance companies and the delivery of healthcare. Wes uses this detailed knowledge to more effectively analyze employee benefit plan performance, and more effectively negotiate contracts with insurers and plan administrators.

As a consultant, Wes’s clients have included many mid-sized to large organizations in both the public and private sectors, including publicly traded and closely held companies; large municipalities; major universities; collectively bargained plans; and large public school systems. Wes seeks to understand each client’s unique business needs and works to become an integral member of his client’s team of professionals. He understands how to work collaboratively with actuaries, compensation consultants, and other financial and human resource professionals to develop comprehensive solutions to meet the business needs of his clients. His specific areas of knowledge and expertise include plan design and business strategy, workforce management and human resources policy development, underwriting and rate setting, regulatory and compliance issues, employee contribution policy development, specific Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliance strategies, RFP design and evaluation, and contract negotiations.

Wes has a great deal of experience developing effective compliance and workforce management policies for clients with complex employee positions. He helps colleges and universities to analyze their workforce and specific employee positions in light of the ACA, and then works closely with the client’s legal counsel to develop ACA compliance policies that meet the special needs of those organizations. Wes has a great deal of experience and expertise with self-funded student health plans. He assists universities with large Graduate Assistant populations programs that meet business needs in a highly complex regulatory and tax environment. He assists universities in the CMS application process for MEC status for their self-funded plans, which is an important step if these plans are to meet students’ shared responsibility requirements under the ACA.
